Today, we are going to be looking at 10 ways you can improve the quality of your designs when ordering them on a print-on-demand site. We hope this post will help you avoid some mistakes that could cost you time and money by making the process simpler, and easier for the printer to complete.
History of Printful
On March 28, 2017, Printful launched in the U.S. and quickly became a leader in print on demand with over 120,000 customers and $100 million in sales. The company has continued to operate successfully as it grows its global reach. In October 2017, they surpassed 1 million active customers worldwide achieving record sales of over $4 million that month alone!
Printful is a one-stop-shop for all of your printing needs. The service allows you to design your own products, upload your designs, and then choose which print-on-demand platform to sell them on.
I recommend Printful for all your print-on-demand needs. They offer great quality printing, easy interactions, and a wide variety of products to choose from. They have a huge list of products, we have personally printed on shirts and hoodies there and they came out great!
Before we jump in, I recommend using videos and other sources to get ideas for your design. Below are a few links to get you started:
1)
Make sure your colors are on file and accurate. You should have all images saved in appropriate formats for printing purposes (CMYK). If you do not, it may result in a color shift or incorrect contrast during reproduction.
2)
Do not leave space between images when designing for print-on-demand products as it stretches out the design image by stretching out space between images or text.
3)
Try to be consistent with color. If you have different text and images for the same product, make sure that the colors of all of those items are the same. This will ensure that there are no color discrepancies when printed. For instance, using blue text on a white background will result in a color shift or incorrect contrast during reproduction.
4)
When designing, try not to put too many brands into one product. This can cause confusion when printing as it may be difficult for the printer to differentiate between two different brands from your design producing different results than intended if they vary too greatly from your original concept.
5)
Be sure to give your files all the necessary information and resource links in order for them to be complete. For example, if you are going to use a certain font, make sure it is installed on the system they will be printing on. It will save you and them time if they do not have to waste time trying to re-do it because they did not have the right font on their computer or cannot find it.
6)
Very large images can cause problems when printing. This is because larger images take longer for computers to process, especially when there are a lot of them in one design file. Printing may also be greatly affected by this, causing poor color or quality reproduction as well as extended wait times.
7)
If you need something more complicated than a t-shirt, make sure to clear any legal issues with the supplier before going ahead with your design. What may be “fair use” on one kind of product, may not be on another and they would not want you to risk legal action for using copyrighted images. You will also want to make sure that what you present does not infringe on someone else’s copyright. This could result in fines and legal fees that will cost much more than if you had checked first.
8)
Be sure to leave enough space for the print area. This is an often-overlooked element as it can really affect how well your final design looks when reproduced. If there is too much space around the design, it will look crowded and may detract from the overall appearance of your print.
9)
Using poor quality images can cause a lot of problems with printing as they can result in poor quality reproduction, loss of color or contrast, and even incorrect copies or layouts all on their own. Try to make sure you have the best quality images available for your design.
10)
When designing products that include a quantity field, make sure to include the correct amount or it may result in an incomplete order which may not be able to be completed by the printer and lead to delays for both sides.
Remember: If you show up without all of the information and resources necessary, it is not likely you will be able to get the job done correctly on time and on a budget!
Summary
Printful is a great option for printing. It’s a one-stop-shop for creating and printing your custom products. They have a huge selection of products, great quality printing, and easy interactions. Printful is one of my go-to choices for custom merchandise.
T-shirts or hoodies are available in their catalog along with other options like posters, coffee mugs, tote bags, pillows, tapestries, water bottles, and more! The prices for the product are about the same as other companies that I’ve used before. Prices change from time to time but it always reflects the quality of products they offer.
The only complaint I have is that I have found it difficult to find exactly what kind of product I’m looking for. The catalog seems to try to be too much, instead of just listing the options you would like. But once you get in there and select your products, all of the options are listed and ready to go!
Printful is the fastest way to print products for your business. They are very affordable and everything prints incredibly quickly and consistently.
The Printful platform is a great way to start your print-on-demand journey. Whether you are looking for shirts, hoodies, pillows, or other products, they have everything you need. Besides having a wide selection of products and colors available for customization, Printful also provides high-quality printing; easy interactions; and fair pricing.
